The Gilly Project (TGP) is a nonprofit community inspired by and centered around the life of our brother and friend, Nick Gilbert. Living 26 years with NF, and all the complications it brought, never once stopped him from living everyday with purpose, gratitude and joy. His physical life came to an end, but his spirit and legacy remain. We exist to amplify the way he lived - and to inspire the next generation of NF fighters.

What is Neurofibromatosis?
Neurofibromatosis, also known as NF, is a genetic disease that causes tumors to grow on nerve pathways anywhere in the body. It affects 1 in every 2,000 births throughout the world, and 4 milion people worldwide are living with some form of NF. NF can be inherited or be the result of a spontaneous change in the gene.
Who is Nick “Gilly” Gilbert?
The universe threw away the mold after Nick Gilbert was made. There was nobody more unique. His patented laugh that often consisted of a 30 second pause where you were unsure whether to laugh or give him the heimlich. His lip quiver that signaled we were in for an outrageous joke or statement. His random questions that at first seemed ridiculous but were actually quite logical. Nick had all these intricacies that made people magnetic to him.
Nick passed on May 6th, 2023 due to complications with neurofibromatosis (NF) - a genetic disorder he was diagnosed with at infancy. The thing is: Nick’s entire life was a fight - you just never would have known.
